Hi Friends,
Welcome to the first edition of First Cut, where I share the ideas I’m testing, the things I’m reading, and the thinking behind my work - with you, before anyone else.
On My Mind
I’ve always been a dreamer. I live a lot in my head. I’ve been told to be more realistic. I think being realistic puts you at risk for being average.
It’s 2020. I’m a mom with two toddlers in diapers, six years into a corporate role I’ve been quietly overdelivering in. Bumping my head against a glass ceiling, repeatedly. When my team is let go, I’m forced to ask myself: where am I headed? Who am I now?
I start researching where my industry is headed. A McKinsey study stops me cold: two out of three consumers make purchasing decisions based on values alignment. And I know that with where our world is heading, people won’t just want meaning. They’ll demand it. They’ll seek purpose beyond the noise on the screen.
That’s why I founded Evolution Content. I help leaders and companies tell the stories that matter - and it starts from the inside out.
The first thing I do with every client is the same: we identify their Mission, Values, and Purpose. The MVP of the brand. Because no matter how the business evolves - and it will - those three things are the only guarantee. Every story, every campaign, every pivot points back to them. Get the MVP right and everything compounds. Get it wrong and you’re just making noise.
Five years later, the culture is finally catching up. Emma Grede’s book Start With Yourself: A New Vision For Work and Life is an instant New York Times bestseller. It says what many of us already sense: to lead others, you have to start with yourself.
So: do your goals align with your actions? Are you really living by your values - or are limiting beliefs getting in the way?
Limiting beliefs can show up uninvited, quietly convincing you that what you want isn’t possible. Or worse, that you don’t deserve it. Hopefully you’re lucky enough to even recognize them for what they are.
But for now, let’s say you’ve done the work and you’ve overcome those limiting beliefs. You’re ready for what’s next.
Here’s what I keep coming back to: manifestation without vision is just hope.
To manifest you must believe it. To believe it, you must be able to articulate it - to speak it. To speak it, you must know it and be able to imagine that it exists. You must, on some level, be able to “see” it.
Stories are our shortcut to getting there. We can shape a narrative - a reality we can buy into. Imagine and believe. When you can immerse yourself in the world you’re moving towards, not just dreaming about it but moving towards it, you stop standing outside of it. You start living inside what’s possible.
That’s why I believe video is one of the most powerful tools we have. Not to broadcast the life you have, but to rehearse the one you’re building.
That’s where mind movies come in. A mind movie, made popular by Dr. Joe Dispenza, is a short video of the life you’re moving toward - the images, the language, the feeling of it, set to music that puts your body in the room. You watch it on repeat until your nervous system catches up to what your mind already knows.
The brain doesn’t draw a clean line between vivid imagination and lived experience. Elite athletes have used this for decades - they don’t just train their bodies, they rehearse the win. When you can see yourself in the life you want, repeatedly and viscerally, future-you stops being abstract. She becomes plausible. Then probable. Then yours.
That’s what I mean when I say creating video is a way to start living the life before it happens. You’re not describing the future. You’re rehearsing for it.
Speaking of hope, I recently sat down with two people who think about this differently than most. Pete Jones, pastor of Hitchcock Presbyterian Church, and Pete Barlow, Shenandoah Valley changemaker who until recently was running for Congress in Virginia’s 6th District. Their conversation on hope and what it actually means to hold onto it right now, in this moment, in this country - stayed with me. It’s the kind of exchange that reminds you why stories matter.
New Episode
You can watch the full episode on Evolution Now with Flora White - my show on stories, shifts, and mindsets to unlock your next chapter.
That’s why I do this work — helping people see their next chapter clearly enough to step into it. And that’s what First Cut is about: the ideas I’m testing, the things I’m reading, the thinking behind the work.
I’m glad you’re here.
